Privacy Policy

Puffin is a personal vape tracking app designed to help adults reduce or better understand their nicotine consumption. This policy explains what information the app handles, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

1. Information stored on your device

Puffin has no account system. Information you enter or create in the app — including vape sessions, puff counts, nicotine levels, challenge progress, preferences, and settings — is stored locally on your device. We do not receive this content.

2. Analytics

Puffin uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect app interaction and technical information, such as screen views, feature interactions, app version, device type, and approximate usage patterns. We use this information to understand which features are useful and improve the app. We do not send your vape logs, nicotine entries, precise location, name, email address, or advertising identifier to Analytics.

Analytics is enabled by default. You can stop future Analytics collection at any time in Puffin under Profile → Preferences → Allow Anonymous Usage Analytics.

3. Crash diagnostics

Puffin uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports and diagnose stability problems. Crash reports may include an installation identifier, crash traces, app version, device model, operating system version, and other technical state at the time of a crash. We do not intentionally attach your vape logs or other content you enter in Puffin to crash reports.

Google processes Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data on our behalf under its applicable terms and privacy protections. Firebase states that Crashlytics crash traces and associated installation identifiers are retained for 90 days before removal begins. Learn more in Firebase Privacy and Security.

4. Location and motion

Optional movement challenges may use your device’s location and motion data to measure distance, steps, or flights climbed. This information is processed on your device for the challenge and is not sent to us. Location may continue in the background while an active distance challenge is running. You control these permissions in iPhone Settings.

5. Notifications

With your permission, Puffin may send local notifications, such as cooldown reminders or challenge updates. These are scheduled and managed on your device. Puffin does not use a developer-operated server to send notification content.

6. Purchases

Optional in-app purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment card or billing details. Puffin checks Apple-provided transaction status to unlock purchased features.

7. Data retention and deletion

Your Puffin content remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Because Puffin has no account and we do not receive that content, we cannot retrieve or delete it for you. Analytics collection can be disabled as described above. Third-party diagnostic and analytics information is retained according to Google’s Firebase policies.

8. Children’s privacy

Puffin is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect any information from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated in the future. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We recommend checking back periodically.
